Welcome
I was appointed Lecturer in Earth Systems and Ecosystem Science in 2004. I direct the NERC 'MethaneNet' network and lead the Department of Earth and Environmental Science Biogeochemistry group, which in turn is part of the cross departmental and cross faculty "Ecosystems Research Group (ERG)".
I hope you find these pages informative. If you would like to get in touch I can be reached using the contact information at the bottom of this page.

Research Interests
I am interested in the biogeochemistry of terrestrial ecosystems with particular interest in terrestrial/atmosphere exchange of chemically and radiatively important gases.
I have wide-ranging research interests within this broad area of ecosystem ecology. These interests include the investigation of the effects of acid rain sulfate deposition on methane emissions from both natural and artificial wetlands (rice paddies), the role of woody wetland plants in mediating methane emissions from wetlands and the effects of fires and disturbance on fluvial carbon fluxes from forested tropical peat-swamp forest catchments in South-East Asia. Other interests include the effect of ancient atmospheric composition on wetland biogeochemistry and the effect of volcanic events on wetland ecosystem function.
Please look over my 'projects' pages for more detail on these interests.
